zone bbs news by phone?

not sure how reasonable this, but what about for people who are away from the computer but can log in the phone system, there can be a way of listening to the news?. for example, if something important is happening on the zone, say the zone birthday or a death, a user knows about it even if they can't get on the site.

i am not saying this is a top of the list thing, but for some it might be useful to have

I guess it sounds like a good idea, lol. Don't know how its going to work though

I agree with minh, how can this work?

Post 4 by laced-unlaced (Account disabled) on Wednesday, 14-Jan-2009 7:24:00

hmmm, it would probably mean the admins or something recording the newsfile somewhere, i was thinking about having the news as soon as you log in like the main site. of course, if the admins recorded everything (including sports challenge updates) it would be very time consuming, and only important news should be anounced.

Post 5 by Q (Take my advice, I'm not using it anyhow.) on Wednesday, 14-Jan-2009 9:51:14

I think if anyone's interested in the news, they should log into the site, afterall, that's what the zone is really about, with zbp just an additional feature.
I'm quite sure that the intention for zbp never was to become a sort of extension or alternative access method for the zone.

Well I agree, but also I can see where this would come in handy. Some people, for instance, can not log on to their computer at this time, and would really beneift from it! Like i know when you log on to zbp, sometimes there's a recorded message, then it'll say "press 1 to repeat, or press 2 to continue". i think it should have something like that, but again, like was previously said, only for important news.

yeah ash, agree with you. if someone's away from the computer for a long time, they might miss something very important and of interest to them

Daniel, why do you insist on posting boards with these ridiculous and pointless suggestions? If you want the news, log in. I doubt anyone's going to get up in the morning and think, "oh I say! What a tremendous idea! I'll log in to zone by phone and catch the latest news". People go on zone by phone to talk and to send and receive voicemails. Why should we complicate matters with pointless features. And why also, should we clutter up the boards with ideas that clearly haven't been considered properly. it's not clever to write down the first thing that comes into your head you know, it's just taking up space.

I was going to reply, but then I read Q's message, which says everything I was going to mention. I agree with Q.

I agree with Q, Chris N, and yes, Cam also. I don't think there's anything so pressing happening on the Zone that can't wait to be read till you log in. If there is, that means you spend way too much time on this site, or rather, ZBP.

Post 11 by Q (Take my advice, I'm not using it anyhow.) on Thursday, 15-Jan-2009 1:41:13

If you're so frantic about what happens on the Zone, you should really worry about yourself, you know. :)

god cam, it's a sugestion!. if you don't have something nice to say, don't read the topic!

oh, and when have you even bothered to make a suggestion?

i don't reply to your topics... don't bitch in mine!

i 100 percent agree with Q, Cam, Chris N, and sisterDawn, and i won't go back over their posts, but if the zone is that big a deal to you, then you really should look at getting out more. also, who's going to record all this news you want to clog up ZBP with? last time i herd, the admins and cl's actually have busy lives.

It wouldn't take Chris N or someone else incredibly long to record a quick message when you first log in, just for very important things. I mean, just becaus zone by phone is an aditional feature attached to the site doesn't mean everyone is going to be in front of their computer at all times. I think we really need to get away from this idea. I was in a situation not too long ago where I didn't have any access to a computer and only had a cell phone for almost a month. And how about those times when Chris N makes you agree to the terms of service over again? If I remember correctly, there is a linux speech synthesizer that has been added to zone by phone that will read errors and such unless they've got a recorded file for them. Could this not be used to read news updates?

Words of wisdom from brain storm McDizzySpell.

Well professor, as you observantly pointed out yourself, when do I ever post suggestions? So, having made that observation, you let yourself down with your follow up comment. If I don't post suggestions, it's unsurprising that you never reply to them...Are you with me so far?
Also, if you really wish to make pointless suggestions on a board, in order to gage other users oppinions on it, then perhaps it may be an idea to actually take them on board. Time after time you post these half thought out ideas on the boards, and time after time people tell you the many problems that are immediately obvious to those of us with earth as our home planet, yet you don't seem to take them on board. Should we have a board for every little thing that you think is a good idea? I think i'd rather bash the ideas you've already subjected us to, so that hopefully you'll realise between dribbles that you have the mental capasity of a drunk shrew who's just had a bad year, and is thinking of turning to heroin for ief.

you could maybe have a synth read the large changes maybe, say if something was added or something like that. to get all the details you'd have to log in, but as said before sometimes you can't get to a computer, or maybe your computer doesn't have net ability at the time. i've had that before and was wondering about the site after a while.
yes i have a life, i just like keeping up with tings i'm on is all.

Post 19 by Chris N (I just keep on posting!) on Friday, 16-Jan-2009 9:45:30

We have added messages that play upon login to ZBP for changes in ZBP. Agreeing to the terms of service requires that you have access to the website, and will probably stay that way. Remember that ZBP is meant as an extension to the website, not as a replacement for it. It's assumed that you are participating on the website.

this makes sense. Although I still say that there are several people I could name that don't have access, and unfortunately your terms prevent someone else from going in and doing it for them.
